What Shold I Major In
In daily life, I need to make different kinds of decisions, like which restaurants to have my lunch, which elective subjects should I choose for my senior form studies. Now I am facing a big problem that is what should I major in. The major I choose will determine my future studies and even my career. As a scientific discipline student, there are not many subjects for us to select. I have to think about different aspects to pick the most suitable major for my future studies and hope I can use the knowledge I learnt in university in my job.
There are two programmes I want to major in, one is Applied Biology and the other one is Environment Science and Management. If I choose the major as Applied Biology, this programme requires student study at Molecular Life Sciences, Environmental Biology, Applied Microbiology and complemented with a solid grounding in chemical science. Although biology is one of my favourite subjects and experiments in this subject are very interesting, in fact studying at Applied Biology need to explain evolutionary theory based on observations in the laboratory and field studies. We have to write a laboratory report to explain those observation, but it is not easy to finish and I am not good at this work. In addition to laboratory report is a big problem to me, a major may judge my life. In Hong Kong, there are few work provide for the students who focus on science subject. Since Hong Kong is an international financial centre, focus on economic development. Most of science subject's students cannot work on their professional in the future. If they really want to work on science aspect, they have to continue studying to get a Master degree or be a researcher at university. Honestly, it is not what I want, I want to use what I learnt in my career.
Compare with Applied Biology, I think Environment Science and Management is much suitable for me. This programme aims at teaching students the knowledge on environment topics. Chemistry and Biology are included in the topics, I am good at chemistry and biology got a nice grade in DSE . I am confident that I can do my best in this area. Apart from the content of the programme, the career prospect is also better than Applied Biology. This programme is more practical for thw reason that it concentrate on environment issues. Since people put more attention on environmental issues today, government, factories and non government organizations like Greenpeace need this sort of professional. After graduating I do not have to worry about employment and it also fulfils my expectation.
People major in Environment Science and Management need to contain good leadership and problem solving skills. I was the Vice Chairperson of the Science Society at secondary school. My duties were holding many kinds of activities for our schoolmates and allocating work to teammates. While I was planning the activities, I encountered many obstacles. Thankfully I could tackle problems with my teammates, it made me believe that teamwork is the key to success for everything. Moreover, it made me know to solve the problem must be step by steps and be calm while dealing with difficulties. Not only do those experiences brush up my analytical skills, but I also believe it will be useful to my studies.
I am aspired to develop an environmental career and have the perseverance and determination to pursue this dream. Whatever position I have in the future, with the knowledge I acquired, I hope I can try my best to serve the community. With the faith in myself, I will be able to achieve greatness in the coming days.

THE OUTSIDE OF SHAM SHUI PO MTR STATION
Passengers pour out of the MTR station exit, people who behind the crowd often push and jostle those in front, hoping to get on more quickly. This is a very common scene that we can see outside the MTR station at rush hour in Sham Shui Po. It was once said that this scene is also a typical situation in Mong Kok, Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui. However, the surrounding environment of Sham Shui Po station is utterly different from those places. Most passengers squeeze through the exit of the station are living in Sham Shui Po. Unlike the tourist hot spot, people from all walks of life. Most of them here are students, housewives, elder people, vendors and so on. It is a place which can reflect the true picture of the native.
The most bustling Sham Shui Po exit is located in Apliu street which is an area that never sleep. Pedestrians often overflow into Apliu street, especially when people get off work and after school. Apliu street is one of the open-air street market in Hong Kong. There are different kinds of stalls in the street which sell a sort of products, like headphone, phone case, electronic items, power tool. We can find all thing we need for our electronic device here for the reason that Apliu street regard as Hong Kong's Akihabara. Here's hawkers always looked busy, they shouting at the top of their voice and displaying products to attract customers. Many people were lure by hawkers' yell, stop to watch what thing is selling. We can find a lot of electronic device at reasonable price from these stalls even we can make a bargain with them. If you have any doubts about the product, they are pleasure to answer your question.
During the rush hour, the street near by MTR station is full of students, housewives, people who are after work. Housewives always carry a few bags of vegetable, meat and walk in hurry because they need to prepare meal for their family. Students always shopping with their friends before go home. Pupils love gathering in the vicinity of food stall. The pavement in front of the shop is terribly congested. Food stall sells Hong Kong local snacks only, such as egg puff, fishball, fried stuffed tofu, cattle offal. The food fragrance spreads over the street that attract many pedestrians to buy it.
A rest area is build outside the station, a row of tree is planted in the middle of benches. The elder usually congregate here, some of them sitting on bench and reading newspaper, some of them are engrossed in a game of chess in the shade. It is also a good place for people wait for their friends. Instead of standing in street under the sun becoming soaked wet, people prefer cooling of in shade.
Every time I walk pass by Sham Shui Po MTR exit, it shows me the authentic picture of Hong Kong as well as I can have a taste of the real Hong Kong Style. Listening to the yelling from hawkers, music from shops, laughter from walker , clanging sound from roads. These sounds never make me fell annoyed. Although it is just a tiny part of Hong Kong. If we try to combine it together, we will discover it as a splendid symphony of our city but not prevelent.
